Godzzila Head – a symbol of Kabukicho

“Godzzila”, an imaginary creature that emerged for the first time in 1954. In the first movie, it was depicted as “a creature that transformed by radioactivity spread by the hydrogen bomb experiment in Bikini Atoll”, reflecting cold war period. Also, seeing the Godzzila destroying civilized Japanese cities, some peple perceived it is a ghost of deceased soldiers in WWII, left behind somewhere in southern islands.

The building is owned by Toho, a company that created and screening Godzzila. As the old building was demolished because of movie theater losing popularity, Toho is said to be reluctant to build this building centering movie theater again, and therefore they decided to set up Godzzila head to attract people making this building a landmark of Kabukicho.
