Kakunodate, literally “the compound on the corner”, is developed in 17th Century or beginning of Edo (Tokugawa Shogunate) Period, the area still remains as it used be in some hundreds years.
The area of Samurai compound is renowned by Japanese people with “weeping cherry trees”, or low hanging cherry blossoms in Spring. Since the area was not attacked by new government force in Meiji Restration in 1868, you’ll see tons of remainings from Edo Period.
