Known as the last battle field of Boshin War (1968) in main land, the castle has stood against Meiji new government forces. The Shogunate forces (or registance for new govenment) included many of samurai families (wives/kids etc.) and ended up almost 3,000 killed by enemies or themselves. It is said the worst battle for a whole city suffered in Japanese history. The castle was destroyed after the war, and rebult after 1960’s.
