Sakata, Yamagata Pref. – Honma familiy’s residence (2/2)

The residence of Honma family, renowned landowner in Sakata. Typical Samurai house built in 1768, and has been the house by 1945, or the WWII end.

Very traditional house. Pine trees are regarded as a symbol of longevity from its nature of evergreen.
A map showing what Honma family developed, including library or temples etc.
A counter used for shops. Usually the chief clerk of shop sits here to settle business.
Sakata Festival (May 19th – 21st), continues for over 400 years.
So many lion heads used in the festival are displayed in the city. The left says “Pine” and right says “Cherry”.
